The Next Gen of Kite Foil racing is coming. With the Tokyo Olympics now completed, the focus is now shifting to Paris 2024 and beyond where Kite Foiling will now take its place on the Olympic program. The announcement of the Olympics being secured for Brisbane 2032 is creating serious buzz around the sport here in Australia. It's still a few years away, but it's time we start creating the Kite Foilers of the future.
Queensland based Kitethrills lead by Kiteboarding Australia's head of training Mike Walker has launched the 'NextGen' after school program targeted at developing grass root level skills for kitefoiling, wingfoiling & hyrdrofoiling. These skills will then form the basis and provide the steps to progress into club racing & beyond. There is a series of regular Kite Foil racing in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast organiserd through Sunshine Coast Kite Racing Club.
Head coach Mike Walker said "The prospect of lots of youth racing wings and kites in the SKR summer series is really exciting. We're expecting a great boost to race numbers from this program, and hopefully, we can create a centre of excellence here at the Olympic venue. Regardless of the excitement around the Olympics, its great to see the next generation of kiters coming through".
The program will run on a weekly basis after school in both Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
This is an amazing opportunity to start the journey towards the start line for your daughters & sons, your kids’ friends, your friends kids, nieces and nephews, neighbours and any one under 18!
