International GKA Kite-Surf World Tour & Cabrinha National Wave Series launched at Torquay!

The final event of the 2018 professional Global Kitesports Association (GKA) Kite-Surf World Tour will be held at Point Danger in Torquay, Victoria from 12 to 16 December. The Australian Kite-Surf World Cup event follows a series of competitions held around the world in places such as Cape Verde, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Mauritius and Brazil.
Fifty of the world’s best kite-surfers, including two Australians, will compete for five days in the first international kitesurfing competition to be held in Australia. The 2018 Men’s and Women’s World Champions will be determined at the events in Torquay.
Local kite-surfers will also have an opportunity to compete. In the lead-up to the GKA event, Kiteboarding Australia will hold the National Titles between the 7 to 10 December at Torquay, which 4 female and 4 male wild cards will be given the opportunity to compete in the GKA event.
Kiteboarding Australia is also pleased to announce the "2018/2019 Cabrinha National Wave Series" that will include 5 State Titles events in WA, SA, QLD, NSW and VIC over the summer and will include the National Title. The National Wave Series is a key part to the development of Kitesurfing in Australia and to now offer a pathway from learning to kite through to, state, national and international competition is a great step forward for the sport in Australia.
The GKA Kite-Surf World Tour is the peak professional international series for wave and strapless freestyle kite-surfing. The Australian GKA Kite-Surf World Cup event is supported by the Victorian Government, and the Surf Coast Shire along with Kiteboarding Australia and Kiteboarding Victoria.
Minister for Sport John Eren said the Government is excited to bring the world’s best kite-surfers to Torquay for the first Global Kite-Surf World Tour of its kind in Australia, “events like this draw visitors from far and wide to regional Victoria, which is great news for tourism operators and local businesses” he said.
Registrations for the National Title are now open via the Kiteboarding Australia website and will close on the 26th of November.
