Hi Crew!
The Milang Charity Downwinder is happening again! Last year we had an epic turn out and everyone enjoyed the hospitality provided by the Milang Regatta Club. This is going to be a FUN event with plenty of options for kite boarders of all levels!
==== Saturday (24/11/18) DOWNWINDER ====
Just like last years event, we'll be trucked upwind to Point Sturt (in a mini-bus) where we'll ride downwind back to Milang. There will be several boats in the water to support us and a photographer to take rad snaps! Afterwards, we can retire to the newly renovated Milang Regatt Club, for dinner and refreshments!
==== Sunday (25/11/18) FOILING & BOATS ====
Foilboarding behind kites or in the no wind scenario, behind speed boats!
Transition Surf and Skate is holding a foil clinic FREE OF CHARGE. Martyn Bone will be dishing out tips and tricks to get you up and riding. BYO foil or contact martyn to enquire about demos. If you wish to participate in the clinic, you will need to be a current KA/KSA member or you could purchase an event membership on the day.
==== GENERAL NOTES ====
The Milang sailing club have been hospitable, allowing us to swag/sleep in the club rooms Saturday night, and not to mention that they will be providing all the food/drinks for us! Including eggs, bacon, and iced coffee the Sunday morning ;) There is also accomodation at the caravan park; cabins and camping.
Bring your family and friends, and enjoy the lakeside views or even learn to sail by one of the Milang members. Pencil in these dates as it will be a fun weekend! $40 pp - includes the downwinder and food, with half the proceeds being donated to charity. Sign up online, or cash taken on the day
====ABOUT THE CHARITY====
The guys and girls from the Disabled Surfers Association of SA are a bunch of super awesome volunteers who operate out of Moana surf club. Their events provide an opportunity for children and young people with a mental or physical disability to try catching a wave with the help of volunteers, and whilst doing that to offer their families and/or carers some much needed respite.
To run their events some much needed funding is required, and having volunteered myself in the past, there is nothing like seeing kids, who face massive barriers in every day life, with a giant smile on their face when catching a wave and for a moment might forget about all those barriers.
Someone from DSA-SA will come down during dinner time and say hi, so lets help these guys out and get kids with disabilities stoked to enjoy the ocean as much as we all do:)
Last year we also helped out the Disabled Surfers association of SA as our charity, and with the funds we raised last year (just over 800$) they were able to pay some major costs like their yearly insurance to keep running for another year.
As they are such an awesome local organisation, we wanted to help out again, and see if we can break last year's record! We will also have donation tin on the day, but if you would like to donate but are not able to make the weekend, Donations can be made into the KSA account and the committee will ensure it goes to the DSA-SA.
