KWA 2024/25 Female Development Series - Surfboard Downwinder Clinic with former State Wave Champion Anh Dao  

When:  Saturday, 30 November 2024, 1:00-4:00 pm  (including goal setting and car logistics)

Where:  Perth Northern beaches (starting point and course will be confirmed based on weather conditions and riding levels)

Price: for Full KA/KWA Members: $90 (93.40 incl. fees). See options for non-members below.

Note: that the clinic may be cancelled or postponed if we do not get enough wind. Potential backup dates will be communicated at that time.

What to expect

This development clinic is the right thing for you if you have started riding a surfboard and want to try or get more confident with downwinding and spend an afternoon with like-minded girls! It could also be a good checkpoint if you are considering doing the KWA Santa Downwinder in December! 

You can expect a small friendly group with coaching from an experienced instructor. We will cover goal setting, down-winding techniques, and de-brief. Focus areas can be tailored to your goals and may include riding conditions, equipment, stance, kite position and flying, toeside riding or gybes.   

The clinic will be held on 30 November from approx. 1:00 pm to 4:00pm. Start time, meeting point and course will be confirmed closer to the date. Please keep the day flexible to allow for time adjustments due to wind conditions etc. 

Participation requirements

1.  The clinic is for ladies of all ages.
2.  Participants need to be intermediate riders.
3. You should be able to ride/kite on your surfboard both ways.
4. You should also know how to swim and how to perform a self-rescue.  
5.  You must bring your own gear (i.e. kite, bar, surfboard, harness, pump, wetsuit). 
6.  You need to be a Kiteboarding Australia/KWA Member. Single-event membership is available, see more info below.
7. Event registration is essential - click on the 'Register' button. This is in addition to membership sign-up if you are not an existing KA member.
8.  Please include a valid phone number in your registration profile.
9. Communications with your instructor ahead of the session will likely be via WhatsApp, please have the app installed!

KA Membership

To participate you need to be signed up as KA member. If you are not a member yet, you can choose one of the following options:

• Full membership - $190 for new Members ($165 for renewal) - If you plan to attend two or more events this season and want to support our sport, sign up here for a full annual membership for Kiteboarding Australia. This lets you participate in all Kiteboarding Australia events (e.g. Santa Downwinder), competitions and clinics and will give you access to insurance, including recreational public liability and personal accident insurance. 
• Price for non-KA/KWA Members: $165 ($169.90 inc. fees). Consider becoming a full member if you plan to attend two or more KA events this season and want to support our sport. If you do not want to become a member, select the non-member registration option. The cost for this option is higher as it covers the cost for a single event membership.
