Senior Wing Instructor Course - Online
Date: 17 August 2024
Time: 9 - 12 pm; 3 hour online webinar
Description:
So you’re already a wing foiling instructor, you have some experience of teaching winging either in Australia or overseas, you like and enjoy it and want to take it to the next level.
The purpose and function of the Kiteboarding Australia Senior Wing Instructor Course is to expand on the knowledge and skills learnt on your initial ITC, and look onwards at the next step on the career ladder. From 2019 every Kiteboarding Australia school requires at least one Senior Instructor as the principle/ manager in charge of school operations.
The course is designed to teach and inform experienced instructors about employing staff, safety management systems, running schools, and the different courses that can run in schools from learning to kiteboard and wing, to instructor training, first aid and so forth. How to run different level groups in areas, run and manage beaches, deal with awkward customers and adverse weather effectively. The slightly more gritty back office side to winging schools in other words.
This is one side of it, however, the other is to look at the more advanced level of students and how to run effective high-quality coaching sessions in the intermediate areas of the Scheme.

Course Information
This course is developed to blend a live webinar learning with on-beach practical learning and assessment, and will equip experienced Wing Instructors with the knowledge and tools to run and manage a professional winging school. The course is primarily aimed at developing the candidate’s knowledge of operational and management practices to ensure the safe running of a school. There are also components which examine modern technologies and best teaching practices.
The course has two components:
- Online live workshops including presentation delivery and assessment (Teams meetings delivered by Kiteboarding Australia Trainers);
- In person, on-the-beach assessment of your ability to manage more advanced instruction challenges (delivered by KA trainers by appointment).
By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:
- Understand and develop a safety management system for their activities and locations of teaching;
- Supervise, assist and assess level 1 instructors and mentor them for improved teaching and coaching;
- Develop and deliver intermediate level coaching sessions;
- Develop high quality instruction and coaching programs and lesson plans for a wide range of locations, teaching methods, and teaching subjects;
- Manage a professional Kiteboarding Australia accredited school for kite or wing, including one that employs other coaches;

To ensure Kiteboarding Australia maintains our standards to at least those expected from our customers, insurers and our international partners in instruction, it is possible to fail the course and the candidate must re-take the course. For those that pass the course they will be issued with a senior instructors certificate that is valid for 3 years from issue (conditional with a valid first aid qualification, boat license and Kiteboarding Australia membership). Candidate's course completion may also be deferred and an action plan agreed between trainer and candidate.
If you are unhappy about the outcome of your course you should raise these issues at the time with the trainer, at this stage, you should try to agree an action plan with the trainer. If you are unable to agree an action plan you may appeal in writing to the Kiteboarding Australia Lead Examiner or General Manager.
