Press Release:

Come and Experience Extraordinary in Western Australia in 2017 at the eight edition of Western Australia’s Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton.

The race is scheduled to take place on Saturday 9th December 2017 and with a first reserve day of Sunday 10th December starting at 14:30 hours and with an expected crossing time of between 20 and 30 minutes for the winner depending on conditions.

Competitors travelling from Interstate and Internationally are encouraged to book flights and arrange travel plans that permits them to race on any of the proposed dates, below. This is a new addition to the Notice of Race to ensure the race is staged in typical Western Australian Summer pattern weather conditions. That is to say with ‘a classic coastal sea breeze of between 15 to 25 knots from a South Westerly direction.’

Additional Reserve Days are scheduled for Saturday 16th December and Sunday 17th December in the event of insufficient or too much wind on either the 9th or 10th December. If the race is not run on either the 9th, 10th, 16th or 17th December the event will not be staged in 2017.

NB: No entry fees will be refunded. All competitors will however retain their numbered race lycra and event t-shirt (actual cost ~ $95.00).

This year 140 competitors will be given the chance to take up the challenge of the 2017 Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton, bragging rights and a stake in the prize pool. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winner, runner up and third place and with cash prizes extending to the Top 10 and for the top placed twin tip racers.

Once again Tourism WA have supported the race with fantastic cash prizes:

Equal prize money for Open male & female racers: 1st $1,250; 2nd $750; 3rd $500 each gender and with open prizes continuing from 4th to 10th overall.
Twin Tip Division for male & female racers: 1st $500; 2nd $375; 3rd $250 each gender.

The value of the cash prizes totals $9,125
The value of the trophies exceeds $4,000.

A total of $9,125 in cash prizes and $4,000 in awesome trophies. That’s $13,125 of incentive to race!

On the morning of the race all competitors will meet at the Rottnest Express Rous Head Port and enjoy a leisurely ferry crossing - courtesy of Rottnest Express - to Rottnest Island with an ideal opportunity to familiarize yourself with the Gage Roads race course.

On arrival at Rottnest Island shuttle buses will transport competitors to Kingstown Barracks for a full safety briefing and the issue of two smoke flares, which will be completed at 12 noon, with the start scheduled for 14:30hrs.
